Fees and Rebates
Fees are significantly lower than the APS recommended fee. If you are referred by your GP on a Mental Health Care Plan you will qualify for a medicare rebate so your out of pocket expense will be approx. $30. Discounts are available to pensioners and those experiencing financial hardship.
You do not need a GP referral to see a psychologist if you wish to pay privately. Clients will be able to claim a rebate from their Private Health Fund if they are covered for psychological services. Please contact your health fund directly to find out what level of rebate you may be eligible for. Payment of the full fee is required at the time of the appointment.
Some clients will be referred by their GP or Psychiatrist through the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This will occur if your Doctor assesses you as meeting the criteria for a mental health issue under the scheme. If you think you may qualify then please discuss this with your doctor. You will need to allow enough time for your GP to assess you, register you with medicare and complete a MHCP. A copy of the referral letter/MHCP needs to be brought to the first psychological session.
Clients who are referred by their Doctor under a Mental health care Plan can receive a substantial rebate from medicare for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. There are currently two types of medicare rebates for psychological services depending on the qualifications of the psychologist. Michele Diamond is a Clinical Psychologist with specialist endorsement which means Clients referred under a MHCP receive the maximum rebate for psychological services leaving minimum out of pocket expense. (If you are choosing a psychologist based on fee charged and you are on a MHCP you will need to check what rebate you will receive to determine the out of pocket cost to you. Michele may give a discount or bulk bill in cases of financial hardship.)
You do not need a referral from your GP to make an appointment if you are able to pay privately (with or without private health rebate).
You do need a referral letter AND a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP(or Psychiatrist) should you wish to attend under the Medicare Initiative and receive a rebate. Your ability to qualify will depend on your GP's assessment of your condition.
We set aside an hour for your appointment. If you need to cancel or change an appointment please give at least 24 hours notice, or a cancellation fee will be charged. The cancellation fee is 50% of the appointment fee for less than 24 hours notice. Medicare does not cover cancelled appointments.
